1. Why the name Gifted FlameThrowa?
Well in a nutshell,I chose "Gifted" due 2 the fact I know I have a "gift" of putting words together and I know that "gift" comes from God. " Da Flamethrowa" because well, I don't mean 2 toot my own horn,but "toot toot" I spit heat.
2. How did you get started... tell me everything!
Everything lol aight... I started rapping when I was 7 or 8yrs old.Around 12 or 13 my cousin and myself started doing Talents shows & venues around the city.We then signed to Take Fo Records (Jubilee,Ramp,KC Red R.I.P) as a writer and choreographer. From there I left Take Fo & signed with Smoke 1 Records (Zeeda,Tre 8).I featured on various Tre 8 albums as "Hinasy" but never produced an album.From there things began 2 change,we had deals on the table with Bad Boy and Tommy Boy Records but we all had joined church at this time.God opened up our eyes to the damage we were promoting in our music,so we decided 2 drop the deals & switch up the message in the music. So "Mukes" the CEO who is now my Pastor; changed the name of Smoke 1 Records to Bound 4 Glory Records.Under Smoke 1 all we did was glorify the very things that were & still are destroying us and our neighborhoods.Under Bound 4 Glory we speak life & positivity into people.Now we've done a venture with MuchLuvv Records/Infinity/Central South. So with that national distribution,poppa gotta brand new bag.
3. Being from New Orleans how did Hurricane Katrina change your life?
Dramatically, that situation showed me how real life could get.I mean I've been through a lot,2 different car accidents where I should have died in both. Because I was driving while being loaded & drunk and lost control of the vehicles.I've even been shot in my face,but that hurricane shook my life up.I found myself in Houston,without any money,my wife and kids, living in a fema paid hotel and feeding them out of an ice chest.I never saw that coming.But God was faithful & he bought us through. So I can't & won't complain feel me.
4. Do you consider yourself a Gospel rapper ? if not give me a title.
Well I do,but I never carry that title.See my audience is not just the church but its main stream also. So that title, because of people's opinions forces you in a real "lame" box & forces cats 2 prejudge the music B4 hearing it. So my title is simply a "HipHop Artist". I'm no different from any other main stream artist.. don't get it twisted I rep God 2 the bone gristle but my music is industry quality and I'm gettn spins from Djs in both genres. My album "Street Symphony" www.flamethrowa.com can stand with any other album past or present.I recorded my passion and my heart on that thing.
5. What's your favorite cereal ?
Cookie Crisp with bananas all day babygirl.
6. How do you relax before you go into the studio ?
I just focus on the song that I plan on knocking out.I visualize how I want 2 execute the song & how I would perform it on stage and then I go in and "Flame On" lol.
7. Where do you like to travel most?
I love New York,but this summer I went 2 London which in many ways looks just like NYC, but its rich with so much history. So London may be the spot now.I plan on going back this summer.
8. What to expect from you in 2010 ?
People should expect 2 see something they have never seen.A God centered rap artist on mainstream stages.Its time 2 bring the light into darkness and that's my grind.Iam a new breed.
9. How do you keep your head so smoothhhhh?
I get a hair cut twice a week shorty lol
