Rodney King will forever remembered as the symbol of forgiveness. On March 3, 1991 on a routine traffic stop, King became a victim of a brutal beating by seven Los Angeles police officiers. This sparked a national call of action and for over 20 years Rodney has publically dealt with the fame and shame stemming from that terrible night caught of camera.
The Rodney King riots made headlines for it's immense damage. The news of acquittal triggered the Los Angeles Riots of 1992. By the time the police, the US Army, Marines and National Guard restored order, the casualties included 53 deaths, 2,383 injuries, more than 7,000 fires, damages to 3,100 businesses, and nearly $1 billion in financial losses.
From being arrested, shot, robbed and engaged to a woman who was a juror in his classic trial, King still tried to overcome. In April 2012 he brought his experience to paper by releasing an auto-biography titled,
The Riot Within: My Journey from Rebellion to Redemption. It's a chilling look into his life how you can never imagine. I can only wish Rodney could've lived to see just how his book inspired others to fight unspeakable fears and never give up. Rest in Peace Rodney King, in my eyes that's what you will always stand for. ~ Thais Mills
